I am not sure how hybrid plug-ins are going to help the police fleet. I would think that different shifts use them same vehicles, not leaving a lot of time for the plug-in. In addition, won't the high energy use of the computer system negate limit the savings for this part of the fleet. I do think it will be a great solution for more traditional parts of fleets, those that use a vehicle for one normal length shift with much time out of the car, not cruising the streets.

I am glad that the author is highlighting the seedy underbelly of corporate operations to maximize profits. While I don't understand the car industry, or how it works, I was confused by a few things. These guest workers make up a third of the assembly line, but are in the parts supply chain which is run by subcontractors. So are they direct employees of Toyota, or of their subcontractor? We know in the US auto industry that some of the big 3 spun off their parts supply chain, and they have been unionized, although under attack. Is this the same sort …

McCain not only fought against raising the minimum wage. He voted for an amendment that would have abolished a federal minimum wage, leaving it up to the states to establish it and some of them don't have a minimum wage.

Scorp, You have to have a photo ID to cash a check, or in case you get stopped, when driving a vehicle. These IDs do not prove citizenship, which require documentation. I mean come, this article was not that hard to read, but instead you decide to go off on your on conspiracy direction. Bush did not win in 2000. If they had recounted all the votes in Florida, which is Gore's biggest mistake, trying to cherry-pick counties. As a believer in democracy, I thought then that ALL votes in Florida should be counted. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A12623-2001Nov11.html As Paul Krugrman stated, you know …

While I don't doubt that Canadians are aware, probably more than Americans as they have better media than here in the US. All you have to do is look to the 900 layoffs announced April 28th, following the 1,000 in January at the GM plant in Oshawa. But I have to take issue with the portrayal of Jack Layton in the article. As likely leader of the NDP in the federal elections, he would be a prime minister (PM) if they won a majority of the seats, or could be PM in a minority situation like the current administration in Canada. …

On quick correction, Federalist Society (1982) would be 3 administrations, or 5 terms under Republican presidents. If we could solve something big, really big, like health care, I think people would feel that they could make a difference, that the power dynamic had shifted back to the people, or was starting to shift. It took 70+ years of erosive efforts by the conservatives to get us to this place. Hopefully it would take less than 10 years to restore much of what has been lost.

I didn't see this as an anti adoption piece. I saw this as an ethics in adoption piece. My sister was adopted internationally from South Korea 31 years ago as an infant, so that is my personal connection to adoption. Yet, what the comments don't focus on is that number of waiting children in the US. Check out the federal data in AFCARS. http://www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/cb/stats_research/afcars/tar/report13.htm Here are some things I would point out (data from Federal Fiscal Year 2005): • 24,407 youths were emancipated, meaning they left childhood without a solid legal connection to a family. They may never have a parent …
