    much of this discussion portrays the women's movement as just a collection of individuals, and the Dowds and Schlaflys as just individuals making choices. THESE CHOICES ARE SHAPED IN THE REAL POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC CONTEXT of the publishing world (increasingly profit-driven), the current strength of the radical/religious right (which has been built up since the 1960s), and the overall growing disadvantage of women (especially low-income single moms).
