Call for Applications: Goodman Institute for Investigative Reporting 2019-2020 Fellowship
In These Times' Leonard C. Goodman Institute for Investigative Reporting is accepting applications for 2019-2020 investigative fellows. We are looking for established investigative reporters and rising stars who require support and resources to dive into projects they are passionate about.
This is a one-year, part-time remote position with flexible, project-driven scheduling. Salary: $40,000 part-time. Benefits include excellent medical and dental.

The Development Intern supports the work of the In These Times’ development and publishing teams. This is an opportunity for an intern to gain first-hand experience with donor relationship management including prospecting, event planning, stewardship, and other donor outreach activities.

Interns at In These Times gain insight into every step that goes into the production of an award-winning monthly magazine and website. Former In These Times interns have gone on to work at In These Times, The Nation, The Huffington Post, The American Prospect, Truthout, Buzzfeed, Salon, Rolling Stone, International Business Times, and many other publications.
All internship programs follow the dates below. (Note: While we adhere to the deadlines below, applications for internships in the fall, winter and spring can be made at any time.) :

All interns receive a $750 per month stipend, and the program provides a thorough hands-on experience in learning how a growing independent publication works from every angle.
Our interns are also encouraged to apply for outside scholarships, including but not limited to the following:

Women's Leadership Scholarship. Amount: $1,000. Deadline: March 31st annually. Offered to high-achieving women, working in a non-profit internship. Apply AirSafe Research.
EU International Intern Scholarship. Amount: $1,000. Deadline: Dec. 31st annually. Open to U.S. and international students, at non-profit internships. Apply EU Business.
Minority College Scholarship. Amount: $1,000. Deadline: March 15th annually. Available to minority students with GPA above 3.0, pursuing non-profit internship.Apply PakTribune.
Our editorial interns help produce both In These Times and our website, InTheseTimes.com. Depending on experience, interns fact-check, proofread, research articles, find photos, prep stories for web, post to social media and write. As much as possible, we tailor responsibilities according to the individual’s interests. We also pair interns with a mentor editor for the duration of their internships.
- Researching and fact-checking articles for In These Times and InTheseTimes.com
- Participating in print submissions and headlines meetings
- Researching and writing short departments for the print magazine, such as By The Numbers, In Those Times, and This Month In Late Capitalism
- Pitching longer stories for print or for InTheseTimes.com, while receiving guidance from ITT editors in crafting pitches and pursuing story ideas
- Completing at least one full-length story for print or web
- Producing stories for InTheseTimes.com, including html formatting and photo research
- Assisting the web editors in content promotion, social media and traffic-tracking duties
Since In These Times is a nonprofit magazine, all interns will very occasionally be asked to help with publishing and administrative tasks.
Applicants should have a strong interest in politics and independent media. Previous editorial and/or web experience is a plus but is not required.
